By the time you get toTHIS word.
The clip has already begun.
Mr Rogers was the symbol of good old style values. I was often suspended from school as a kid and watched him a lot because it was him or soap operas. I wondered as I put this post together..."How would Mr Rogers feel about terrorizing kids?"
I didn't greet or say goodbye to any party goers. I stayed "in character" and in the Haunted House all night
Exit Stage Left.
As they disappear off to the left...wait a about 6 seconds. A scene similar to the 4th kind plays out infront of them. They are absolutely horrified. That word gets used too often like "sorry" and "love" but trust me when I say they were indeed horrified. The happy feelings were crushed and in their place were installed deep seated horror that those kids will never forget.
It's not often you can point to a spot and say "I traumatized a buncha folks right here" but indeed...8ft to the left of this screen I did just that. The camera is a low light one and it was dark in the room. They could barely see. Smoke ,strobes, and props designed to distract while someone surprises them. The guy you see in white has done every one since the beginning but he has a kid now and he's a little more...?....normal? kind?
The pic above is of him at the 1st one we did and terrifying kids was something he did better then. He's still awesome but I can see being a new Daddy has injected some humanity and sympathy into him.
After coming into a dark blackened entrance they have to duck through a small door which puts them off balance and makes them feel vulnerable on top of the anxiety that is building inside them (it's all about keeping them off balance) since they first walked up the stairs to enter the horror house. It quickly becomes a sensory overload and by the time they reached me they were at their wits end.
The kids were so shaken and crying that by the time they went downstairs to enjoy a full dinner they were suddenly bad adds. Nobody wanted to see what they had seen. None of the students who experienced this will ever go up again. The kids from last year and years back never go up again. I only have one shot to inject the horror. They never EVER allow me to do it a 2nd time. They sit and watch as kids who have no idea are about to be freaked. It's a kind of morbid voyeurism.
This face will be in a lot of little minds for a very long time.
If I were not me....I think I'd want to be me.
That has to be a good thing!
Representin'?
You damn right I am!!!
Happy Halloween from the land of the Rising Sun!
